What I do
Mid-July Media is a Michigan wedding videography studio based in Grand Rapids. I make highlight films and full documentaries for couples anywhere in the Midwest, and I’ve filmed 200+ weddings since 2017 doing it.
The setup is deliberately simple:
- I am always the videographer. I’m also the person answering your emails. There is no hand-off to a second-string shooter on the day.
- No time limit on coverage. I don’t run a clock during your reception. I stay until the story is done.
- No travel fee in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula or the Chicago suburbs.
- FAA Part 107 certified drone pilot. Aerials are flown legally, by me, with the paperwork to back it up.

I also film funerals (including military honors), live streams, real estate reels, and commercial work. Weddings are the main event, though. Beyond weddings, I’ve held a camera for a long time. I was Lead Cinematographer at Grand Valley State University from 2018 to 2020, I’ve produced commercial and broadcast video for Lake Michigan Credit Union and Treadstone Funding, and I filmed and produced Split the Mitten, the 72-minute documentary of Max Polakovich’s 400-mile run across Michigan (MLive covered the run). I hold a bachelor’s in Film/Video and Communication Studies from GVSU (Class of 2020, the pandemic year, which taught me a lot about rolling with a schedule change). What to expect
1. Reach out. Email hello@midjulymedia.com or use the form at midjulymedia.com. Tell me the date, the venue, and roughly what you’re picturing. I’ll tell you straight whether I’m available and which package fits.
2. Book it. Contracts and payments run through HoneyBook, so you get one link, not a pile of PDFs. Once it’s signed, the date is yours.
3. Before the day. We talk through the timeline, the must-have moments, and anything unusual about the venue (beach, barn, dune, boat: I’ve done them). If drone shots make sense, I’ll check the airspace ahead of time.
4. The wedding. I show up, I stay out of the way, and I keep rolling. No coverage cutoff. I’ve had couples tell me they forgot I was there, which is the goal.
5. The films. Depending on your package, you receive a highlight film, a documentary edit, or both. Every project gets my full attention in the edit, because there’s nobody else to hand it to.
FAQs
Do you use associate or second videographers?
No. I am the only videographer at Mid-July Media, and I’m the person you talk to from first email to final delivery. Every wedding on the calendar is one I film myself.
Is there a travel fee?
Not within Michigan’s Lower Peninsula or the Chicago suburbs. I’m based in Grand Rapids and drive to most Midwest weddings. For destinations outside that range, ask and I’ll quote travel at cost.
Do you fly a drone at weddings?
Yes, when the venue and airspace allow it. I’m an FAA Part 107 certified pilot, so the flights are legal and insured rather than “a guy with a drone.” I check restrictions before the day and won’t fly if it’s unsafe or prohibited.
